How can I get my contemporary art work to an exhibition?

I'm a starting artist in contemporary art and would like to present some of my works in a temporal exhibitions in a museum. Does anyone know how long arrangements can take and who should I contact for that? Do you know usuall proceedings and contract agreements?

make some photos and submit them to art museums
